Why does nobody talk about shellac flakes going bad in a humid shop?

I mixed a fresh batch of dewaxed shellac from flakes I bought about 8 months ago, and the finish stayed tacky for over two days on a walnut table. My shop in Savannah gets pretty damp, and I think the flakes absorbed moisture before I sealed the jar. What's the best way to store your flakes to stop this from happening?

Honestly, is that even a thing? My old flakes work fine and my garage is basically a swamp.

Yeah, flakes going bad in humidity is totally a thing. I keep mine in a mason jar with one of those silica gel packs you get in shoe boxes. It sucks the moisture right out and they last way longer.

Wait, your garage is a swamp and your flakes are still fine? That's wild, mine would be mush in a week. What kind of flakes are you using?
