But what if instant payment reinforces the value of our work? I feel more respected when compensation is timely, not delayed. That anticipation just felt like uncertainty to me.

Totally get what you mean about feeling respected. That immediate payoff just confirms your effort mattered right away. Waiting around for it always made the work feel less solid to me too.
