Spent a whole Tuesday on a client's broken invoice system

A client in Denver uses a payment tool called PaySimple, and their invoice links just stopped working for no clear reason. I thought it would be a 30 minute fix, but it took me from 9 AM until almost 5 PM to find out their SSL certificate had lapsed. Has anyone else had a payment system just die on them mid-project?

SSL certs going bad are the worst. I mean, I had a car's whole computer system freak out once because of a bad sensor, same kind of hidden problem. Just eats your whole day.
