Shoutout to the guy at the coffee shop who told me to double my rates
Last month in Kansas City, I was complaining to a stranger about a cheap client. He looked at me and said, 'You're charging $50 an hour? That's your problem.' He told me to charge $100 and only take half the work. I tried it this month, dropped my two worst clients, and made the same money in half the time. Has anyone else had a moment where a simple price change fixed everything?

How often do we undervalue our own work?

Wow, that's such a powerful story. It really shows how @noah_barnes is right about us undervaluing our work. What made you finally listen to that stranger's advice instead of brushing it off?

Wait, you were only charging $50 an hour? That's the part that got me. I mean, for any kind of real skilled work, that's practically giving it away. No wonder the stranger looked at you like that. It's wild how we can be blind to our own worth until someone just says it out loud.
