Ugh, it's always like that... The "shortcut" ends up being its own chore, just like david_taylor69 is hinting at. We spend so much time setting up systems to save time that we forget to just do the thing. It feels like a weird rule of modern life.

Take photos of every connection before you unplug a single wire. I learned that after rebuilding a server rack from memory once. Spent half a Friday just figuring out which ethernet cord went to the right printer.
