Bought a cheap knockoff pouring shank from Harbor Freight and it cracked on the third pour

It was a 4-inch shank for our small bronze jobs, cost about $60. I figured it was just a simple piece of steel, how bad could it be? The thing developed a hairline crack right down the side during a pour last Thursday, ruining the mold and about $200 worth of metal. Is it ever worth the risk to save a few bucks on critical tools, or do you guys stick with known brands like McEnglevan every time?
