My accountant told me to stop offering free delivery in a 5-mile radius

Ignored him for a year, lost almost $8k in fuel and labor. Anyone else get burned by a 'customer service' perk that just cost money?

Stare at that $8,000 number and feel sick for you. Free delivery sounds great until you do the real math on gas, wear and tear, and the hours spent driving. It reminds me of what @rosew37 said about those podcasts giving the same old advice. They make these perks sound like magic, but they never show you the spreadsheet where the numbers bleed red. That's a brutal way to learn the lesson.
