My friend swore by the 'freezer trick' for a dead hard drive
I was fixing a 2008 MacBook for my cousin and the drive was totally dead, no spin at all. My buddy told me to put it in a ziplock bag and freeze it for 12 hours, which sounded like total nonsense. I was desperate, so I tried it, and the thing actually spun up long enough for me to pull her photos off. It only worked for about 20 minutes before it died for good, but it was enough. Has anyone else had a weird trick like that actually save the day?

Honestly, that trick saved my butt once too. I felt like a crazy person sealing a hard drive in a bag next to the frozen peas. It bought me just enough time to grab some old term papers I thought were gone for good.

Yeah, sealing it next to the frozen peas like @the_mia said is so weird, but it's like those desperate last-ditch fixes that sometimes just work. I mean, it feels like a lot of tech is held together by weird luck and old tricks.
