Got my dad's old transistor radio working after it sat in a box for a decade

Found it in his garage last weekend, a little Panasonic from the 70s. It was totally dead, no sound at all. I opened it up and saw the battery contacts were just green with corrosion. Cleaned them with some vinegar and a toothbrush, put in a fresh 9-volt, and it crackled to life. Took about an hour of fiddling to get the tuner dial to stop sticking. The sound is tinny but it works. Anyone have a good source for replacement speakers for these old things?

Honestly that sounds like a total waste of time. You spent an hour on a radio that probably cost ten bucks new. The sound quality is bad and you still need to find parts. That effort is better spent on something modern that actually works well.

Tbh you're missing the whole point. It's not about getting a perfect radio for cheap, it's about fixing something with your own hands. That feeling when you get a piece of history working again is worth way more than just buying some new plastic gadget. The sound being a little scratchy is part of its story.
