Overheard a guy at B&H saying you should meter for shadows on slide film

I always thought you expose for highlights like with negative film, but he was dead serious about slide being backwards. Has anyone else tried this metering trick and seen a difference?

Oh man, I bet that guy also says you should set your white balance to "vibes only" and call it a day. Maybe it's just me but I'd rather trust the light meter than some rando in B&H's film aisle.

Slide film has way less latitude so exposing for shadows actually protects your blacks from going muddy while highlights still burn out slower than youd think. Tried it on some Ektachrome and got cleaner shadows without blowing the sky, so that B&H guy might be onto something.
