Hot take: should new film shooters start with black and white, not color?
I spent 6 months and $150 on color rolls that all came out muddy before I finally switched to black and white. Now I'm wondering if jumping straight to color is actually holding beginners back or if I just wasted time.

Read somewhere that a lot of the old school street photographers like HCB actually started with black and white not because it was a choice but because color film was expensive and hard to develop. That got me thinking. Black and white makes you focus on light and composition way more. Color just adds another layer of confusion when you're still trying to figure out exposure. Your muddy shots were probably from bad metering or film stock mismatch with lighting conditions. Black and white forgives a lot of that because the tonal range is more forgiving.

@lucas498 it's not that deep, just take photos and relax.
