Rock post holes vs. digging bars - which one do you grab first?
I used to start every fence post hole with a manual digging bar, even on rocky ground. A few years back I switched to a rock post driver for the first pass, then follow up with the bar only for tight spots. Saves me about 20 minutes per hole on a typical 30-post job in this area. Anyone else find certain tools work better for specific soil types around here?

Digging bar first always lets me feel where the hidden boulders actually are.

Start with a probe first and youll save yourself a lot of extra digging. A digging bar tells you where the big rocks are but it cant tell you how deep they go or if theyre just sitting on smaller ones. Ive pulled out boulders that felt solid with a bar only to find they had a foot of loose rock underneath. @jana_davis90 I get why you like the feel of it but a probe gives you a real picture of whats down there.
