Tbh I tried making a dress from an old bedsheet and it turned out better than expected
Honestly, I had this floral sheet from a thrift store in Portland that I never used. I cut it using a basic shift dress pattern and just sewed it up on my Singer machine. Ngl, the fabric was way heavier than I thought, so the dress has this amazing drape and structure I didn't plan for. Has anyone else had a fabric surprise them like that?

Honestly used to think sheets were just for cheap practice fabric. Grabbed a striped one for a muslin once and the weight made the whole mock-up feel like a real garment, totally changed how I pick materials now. That surprise structure you got is the best feeling, like the project gets its own ideas. Makes me want to go feel up all the linens at the thrift store.

Wait, it's just a bedsheet though, right?

My grandma's 1970s percale sheets have this tight, almost canvas-like weave. I made a work apron from a faded floral one and it outlasts any denim or duck cloth I've bought new. That thread count and the way they were washed for decades changes the game. You're not just getting fabric, you're getting something already broken in and tougher than it looks.
