Spent 80 hours on one map and it still felt incomplete
I finally finished a regional map for my D&D campaign last week. I counted the hours and it came to 80 exactly, which floored me because I thought it was maybe 40. What got me was that even after all that time, I still wanted to go back and add more rivers and trees. Has anyone else put way more time into a map than they expected, and still felt like it was missing something?

Did you at least get a good night's sleep after all that? I spent 60 hours on a single city map once. Still felt like the docks were wrong and the market district was too small. Ended up redrawing half of it two weeks later.

My buddy Mark spent something like 100 hours on a world map for his homebrew campaign and he swore up and down that the mountain range on the eastern side still looked "off" somehow. He ended up deleting the whole thing in a rage and started over from scratch, only to realize the new one looked almost exactly the same after another 30 hours. I think mapmaking is just one of those things where you never truly feel done, you just run out of steam eventually.
