I hit a wall when a friend asked me to map a place from their dreams
They described it in detail, but it matched a real location I know from a travel show, almost like they copied it. I didn't want to call them out or steal someone else's work without credit. How do you deal with possibly accidental copying in map ideas?

Yeah, asking where they saw it is smart! You could even mention the travel show in a chill way, like "Hey, this reminds me of that cool spot from that documentary." That way it opens the door for them to say if they've seen it too.

Ever just ask where they saw it?

But honestly, asking where they saw it puts them on the spot. It can sound like a quiz, like you're checking if their story is real. I've seen it make people get defensive. Sometimes, like sandra_lee93 said, a simple question works, but other times it just kills the vibe of sharing a cool memory.
