Debate: Should we tell clients when products are about to be discontinued or just let them find out?

I had a client last Friday absolutely lose it when she found out her favorite moisturizer got discontinued. She said I should've warned her months ago when I first heard the rumors. But idk, another esthetician at my studio said we shouldn't share info until it's official because it just causes panic and returns. What do you all do when you hear a staple product is getting axed? Has anyone else dealt with this situation and found a good middle ground?

Three times last year I had clients blindsided by discontinues and honestly it felt terrible every time. @jana_davis90 I get the worry about panic but I think people appreciate the heads up even if it's just a heads up like "hey I heard this might be happening". I usually say something vague like "if you love this you might want to grab a backup soon" and that's worked way better than total silence.
