Why does nobody talk about the old cloth-covered NM cable in pre-1960 houses?
I was replacing a light fixture in a 1952 bungalow last month and the insulation just crumbled in my hands when I moved the wire, which could have easily started a fire behind the wall if I hadn't caught it.

That's actually terrifying. The old stuff was basically cloth wrapped around paper insulation, and it turns to dust after 70 years. No wonder it's a fire hazard just waiting to happen.
