Ripped out a customer's old Zinsco panel last Wednesday and put in a new Square D. Night and day difference, those Zinsco breakers are a fire waiting to happen.

Has anyone else run into those things and just immediately quoted a full replacement? I swear half the connections were corroded or loose.

Disagree honestly. Those old Zinscos still have some life in them if you clean the bus bars and reseat the breakers right. Slapped a new main breaker on one last year and it's been humming along fine, no fires yet.

Ha, I hear you and I get the nostalgia! I tried that exact trick on a Zinsco panel in my buddy's basement last spring. Cleaned the bus bars, reseated everything, felt like a real pro. Then two weeks later I walked in and smelled that classic "electrical component burning" smell. Nothing caught fire, but the panel was too warm for comfort. I ripped it out and went with a modern Square D. Sometimes I wonder if the panel was just holding a grudge against me for trying to fix it, haha.
