My apprentice asked me why we call it 'pigtailing' and I had to admit I had no clue.

I've been saying it for 15 years, but when he asked if it was because the wires look like a curly pig's tail, I realized I'd never actually thought about it before.

So is that actually where the name comes from, or did some electrician just make it up one day? I've been in the trade for a while too and never questioned it, but now I'm curious if there's a real history behind the term.

You know, I've been in the trade a while too and honestly, I doubt the history is that deep (some old-timer probably just said it once and it stuck).
