Crushed my $20,000 savings goal for a down payment way faster than I thought

I was aiming to hit that $20,000 mark for a first home down payment by next spring, but after a crazy overtime push at my construction job in Nisku and really cutting back on eating out, I actually crossed it last Tuesday. Hit $20,450 total and I'm still kind of shocked because my old budget said I'd be lucky to save $800 a month. Did anyone else have that moment where the numbers just clicked way sooner than you figured?

Congrats on crushing that goal way ahead of schedule. That feeling when the numbers line up faster than you planned is honestly addictive. Since you're already past $20,000, maybe look into high yield savings accounts now instead of letting it sit in a regular checking account. Even a small interest bump will help it grow while you wait to buy. Also, keep an eye on closing costs, first time buyers often forget those can be 2 to 5 percent of the home price on top of the down payment. Having that extra cushion now gives you room to breathe when you actually start house hunting.

Is a savings account really gonna change your life that much?
