That shiny blue bucket mud I swore I'd never use

I was on a big commercial job in Phoenix last month and the foreman made me try that premixed all-purpose mud from the bucket. Figured it would be junk but after taping and coating 30 sheets of 5/8 fire code, the finish was way smoother than my usual box mix. Anyone else had a brand switch that surprised them?

The humidity factor is what got me. Down in Houston that premix holds up way better in the muggy mornings compared to bag mud that wants to skin over in the bucket before you even get it on the board. I noticed it takes a little longer to set but you don't get those random hard chunks either.

Had a buddy down in Baton Rouge try to save money with bag mud on a bathroom reno last August. Second coat started cracking before he even got the tape float done. Said the stuff turned into a crusty mess in the bucket between trips to the truck. Ended up scraping half of it off and buying premix anyway. Cost him a whole day. He still brings it up every time humidity comes up in conversation.

Wait @stone.thomas ever swear by bag mud too? This thread totally changed my mind on premix.
