Serious question, ever had a dimension string just vanish from a drawing?
I was finishing a set of foundation plans for a warehouse in Spokane when the entire string for the column grid disappeared after a save. I had to rebuild it from a backup plot file, which took about two hours. Has anyone found a reliable way to lock those down in your software?

Read a thread last week about this exact thing happening in Revit. Someone said their dimension strings kept getting dropped when they used certain view templates. They started making a separate locked view just for key dimensions, which seems like a lot of extra work. I always do a quick print preview before a final save now, just to catch if anything has gone missing. It's a band-aid fix, but it saves the panic later.

Totally believe that. Reminds me of a project where our ceiling grid tags kept vanishing every time we synced. We spent two days trying to pin it on the view template before realizing someone had a weird workset turned off. The print preview trick is smart, but it's wild we need these workarounds for basic stuff staying on a sheet.

Hear me out but I actually don't mind the print preview trick. It takes ten seconds and catches so many issues before they hit the sheet. The workset problem you dealt with is a pain for sure but that kind of stuff happens in every software. Revit is just a big weird machine and you learn its quirks over time. I'd rather have a quick workaround than try to make the program perfectly predict what I want every single time.
