My dollar store glue gun melted after one use on a foam pumpkin

I was making a Halloween wreath last night with a pumpkin I got from Dollar Tree. The glue gun from the same store started smoking after about 10 minutes and the glue came out all watery. Now I'm just using basic school glue from the same aisle and it's holding fine. Anyone else have a dollar store tool fail on them mid-project?

Dude my buddy had the same thing happen. He was making a kid's costume with a cheap hot glue gun from the 99 cent store. The handle got so hot it actually warped in his hand, left a little burn mark. He threw it in the trash and just used tape for the rest.

I'm more curious why you'd trust the glue from that same aisle to hold a wreath that's supposed to last. Those school glue sticks are basically just wet paper in a tube after they dry. You might wake up to half your pumpkin on the floor in a week.
