My cat got trapped in a homemade dragon costume

I was in my kitchen last Saturday trying to get a cute photo of my tabby in a no-sew felt dragon costume I made. The headpiece was just a paper plate with felt scales glued on, and I used velcro straps to hold it. Well, she shook her head and the whole thing slid down over her eyes and got stuck around her neck, and she freaked out and bolted under the couch. I had to lay on my belly for 10 minutes cutting the felt with scissors while she hissed at me the whole time. Has anyone else had a pet freak out over a headpiece that was too tight?

Honestly I used to think putting costumes on pets was harmless fun, no big deal. But reading your story about cutting that dragon headpiece off under the couch changed my mind real quick. My own cat clawed my arm up bad when I tried a little bow tie on her last Halloween, and I just figured she was being dramatic. Now I get it, that thing probably felt like it was choking her. I won't be trying any headpieces again, not worth the hissing and the stress for either of us.
