Went to a Habitat ReStore and left frustrated
Stopped by the Habitat ReStore off Highway 55 yesterday hoping to find a used bathroom vanity. They had maybe three beat up ones and wanted $150 each? I can get a new one from Lowe's for that. The place was a mess too, stuff just thrown on shelves with no organization. I get it's donated goods but why price things like they're vintage treasures. Has anyone else given up on those stores and just started buying new?

Did you check if they had employee pricing or a discount for volunteers? I went to one near me and found out they mark stuff up because they assume anyone shopping there is a contractor flipping houses, not just a regular person. The volunteers get first dibs on the good stuff before it hits the floor too. So what you're seeing is the leftovers nobody wanted. One guy told me they'll sometimes hold items in the back for a week before pricing them, which makes no sense when you're trying to sell donated goods.

Honestly I swear every Habitat ReStore has a secret pricing algorithm where they add like 50 dollars just because the item has a sink. I went to one last month and saw a door that was literally chipped on two corners and they wanted 80 bucks for it. @xenar14 you are totally right about the contractor thing too. My uncle used to volunteer at one and he told me they would save the good stuff for guys who came in with trucks and cash. Guess I am destined to keep buying flat pack furniture and calling it a day.
