Why our barn door is the worst DIY decision we made

We added a barn door to our bath area to open up the space. All the home shows praise this look. But it offers zero sound privacy. Conversations echo, and you can hear every noise. The large gap at the bottom lets in light and drafts. We spent a good amount putting it in, but now we regret it. A standard door would have given us the quiet we need. I get why people like the style, but function should come first.

The gap under ours lets all the noise out. Never doing a barn door again.

My last apartment had a sliding closet door that whistled when the wind blew. The landlord just shrugged and said old buildings settle, which wasn't really an answer. I wound up stuffing a rolled towel along the track every winter.

My cousin's barn door saved 4 square feet in her tiny bathroom. Sure @olivia_green41, the gap can be annoying, but you can add a sweep to fix that. Honestly the space savings are worth it (looks cool too).
