Three months of dialing in the same bag of beans before I realized my grinder was the problem.

I kept chasing the perfect shot with this single origin from a local roaster, changing my dose and timing over and over, until my buddy came over and pointed out my burrs were completely dull and had been giving me inconsistent grounds the whole time has anyone else ever wasted that long on a hardware issue without even checking it?

Wait, aren't burrs supposed to be a different issue than dull blades?

Oh yeah for sure burrs and dullness are kinda related but not the same thing. Burrs happen when the edge gets rolled over or deformed from use, while dullness is just the edge wearing down over time. You can have a burr on a blade that's still pretty sharp actually, it's more about that tiny bit of metal folding over than the blade losing its overall edge.
