That $40 bottomless portafilter was a total waste of money
I bought a cheap bottomless portafilter off Amazon for my Gaggia Classic, thinking it would help me dial in shots better. But the thing is so poorly machined that the basket wobbles and leaks around the edges every single time. I must have wasted 2 pounds of beans over 3 weeks trying to make it work. Has anyone found a decent budget one that actually fits tight?

Check the grouphead gasket on your Gaggia first, a worn one can make any portafilter feel loose and leaky. Saved me $40 and a lot of frustration.

Wait, you just saved yourself that headache and the cash too? Man, @grantthomas you are absolutely right about that gasket. I had the exact SAME thing happen on my Gaggia last year and I was about to drop money on a whole new portafilter. I was SO frustrated until a buddy told me to check the rubber ring. It was totally flattened out and hard, like an old tire. A five dollar part and ten minutes of my time and it was good as new, I couldn't BELIEVE it was that simple.
