Why does nobody warn you about capacitor legs on old Xbox boards
Been repairing consoles for a while and every guide makes it sound easy. Swap the caps, done. Took me 6 weeks of frustration to figure out that the legs on the 360's old capacitors are basically welded into the board. My first attempt, I pulled three pads right off trying to use a solder sucker. Tried flux, braid, low melt solder, nothing worked until I finally buckled down and bought a proper hot air station for $85. Three passes at 380C and they came out clean. Full recapped the board in 2 hours after that. Why do all the tutorials skip over this part? Has anyone else lost pads on a Jasper or Zephyr board before realizing heat is the only real answer?

My buddy Rick ripped three pads off his first Jasper trying the braid method and just stared at the board for ten minutes in silence. He ended up having to scratch back the traces and patch them with wire, swore off hot air forever after that.
