My local repair shop's Xbox fix was a scam

Dropped my Xbox One at 'Quick Fix Games' in Austin. Charged me $80 for a new power supply. Console still crashed after 2 hours. Opened it up myself last weekend. Found they just resoldered the old connector. Not even a new part. Who else has caught shops lying about parts?

$80 for a power supply is steep even if they put in a new one, but doing a resolder and lying about it is just trash. I had a similar thing happen with my PS4 at a shop in Dallas, charged me $120 for a "new" blu-ray drive but it was clearly a refurb they cleaned up. After that I started watching YouTube repair videos and ordering parts from ifixit or direct from microsoft. Ended up fixing my own Xbox One S for like $40 and it's been running fine for 8 months now. That shop in Austin sounds like they prey on people who don't know better, which is exactly what happened to me. If you can, report them to the BBB or leave a detailed google review with pics so others don't get burned too.

Gotta say @simontorres, you REALLY made me rethink this whole thing. I used to think paying a shop $80 was just the cost of convenience, but hearing about that Austin place pulling the same resolder trick makes me mad. I had a similar wake up call last year when a local guy charged me $60 to "replace" a fan in my laptop and it died two weeks later. Turns out he just cleaned the old one and charged me full price. Now I watch YouTube tutorials too and order parts from ifixit. It's crazy how these shops get away with lying to people who don't know any better.

It's actually iFixit, not ifixit... they've got a capital I in there. Small thing but I always notice it since I order from them all the time now.
