My SSDI appeal took 14 months and then got approved in 2 weeks
I filed my initial claim back in March 2022 and got denied in August. Spent 14 months going through reconsideration and a hearing with a judge in Oakland. The weird thing is after all that waiting, the judge approved me within 2 weeks of the hearing. Has anyone else had a long wait end suddenly like that?

Oh wow, that is wild. Honestly, I gotta gently point out something though - 14 months for a reconsideration and hearing is actually pretty fast in a lot of places. I've talked to folks who waited over two years just for the hearing part alone. So you kinda lucked out even though it felt like forever. But yeah, the approval coming that quick after the judge hearing is super common actually. Once a judge rules in your favor, the back office in Baltimore or wherever just processes the paperwork fast because the hard part is done. They don't drag their feet on writing the check once they know they have to pay you. Tbh, the real weird part is how long reconsideration takes, not the two week approval part. Glad it finally worked out for you though.

14 months of waiting and then boom, 2 weeks - the SSA really knows how to keep you on your toes (and your blood pressure up).
