Switched from Airbnb to a local Facebook group for housing in Medellin and saved $700 a month

I was paying $1,400 a month for a furnished studio in El Poblado through Airbnb for my first two months here, then a friend told me to check expat Facebook groups and local WhatsApp chats instead. Found a room in a shared apartment in Laureles for $700 with utilities included, same wifi speed, way better neighborhood for food. Anyone else made this switch, or do you just eat the Airbnb tax for the convenience?
