The 'post your WIPs' advice killed my engagement for 2 weeks

Last month someone in the critique thread told me to post rough sketches instead of finished pieces to build a following. Said it makes artists seem more real and approachable. I tried it for 2 weeks straight, posting my messy lineart and color studies every day. My engagement actually dropped by half compared to my normal polished uploads. The comments I did get were mostly people asking if I abandoned the piece or needed help. I checked my stats on Tuesday and the numbers dont lie, my finished work gets 3 times the saves and shares. Maybe that works for concept artists or people doing tutorials, but for my style of fan art it just looks like I dont care. Has anyone else found that the whole be raw and unfiltered trend backfired depending on the niche you are in?
