My $50 custom brush pack turned a simple project into a cartoon nightmare
I bought a set of 'fantasy creature' brushes for Clip Studio Paint to draw a quick dragon for my niece. Instead of cool scales, every stroke made these weird, lumpy shapes that looked like angry potatoes. I spent three hours trying to fix it before just starting over with my normal round brush. Has anyone else had a brush set completely backfire on a simple piece?

Custom brushes can be so hit or miss. I've had a watercolor set that just made muddy blobs no matter what I did. Try testing new brushes on a blank page first, just making random marks to see how they act. Adjusting the spacing and scatter settings can sometimes fix those lumpy shapes. It's frustrating to lose time on a tool that should help.

Tell me about it, my brush testing page looks like a toddler's abstract art. Half the time I just give up and go back to the basic round brush. Maybe we're overthinking the fancy tools?

Adjusting the spacing and scatter" sounds like a whole extra job. @the_julia, sometimes a bad brush is just a bad brush. Fancy settings won't fix a tool that's poorly made from the start.
