TIL cylinder wall deglazing is mostly a myth on modern diesels

Read a teardown report from a shop in Ohio that showed crosshatch still intact after 400k miles on a 6.7 Powerstroke, just from proper break-in and oil. Always thought re-ringing meant hitting the walls with a ball hone, but now I'm questioning that whole step. Anyone here skip deglazing on a high-mile rebuild and regret it?

That crosshatch surviving 400k is wild... honestly I figured deglazing was just standard procedure no matter what. But seeing it hold up that long makes me think we're overthinking it on diesels that weren't abused. Guess a lot depends on how the engine was run early on and if the oil got changed like it should. I'd still probably hone if the walls showed obvious wear, but I'm not gonna lose sleep skipping it on a clean bore anymore.
