Pro tip: skip the flash and let the dead mall go dark, my shots got way better
Everyone in this hobby keeps telling new people to bring a flash or a big light for dead mall shoots, but when I hit the empty Sears wing at Chesterfield Mall in St. Louis with just my phone and no flash, the dark actually made the photos feel real instead of flat. I shot 40 frames in an hour and got better stuff than any lit trip I've done, because the shadows showed the peeling paint and dead escalators way more honest. Am I the only one who thinks the flash kills the whole vibe of a dead mall?
