Hand drawn vs print on old maps, I keep going back to the sketched ones
I was organizing my folder of 1800s town maps last month and had to pick between keeping the lithographed versions or the ones with hand corrections. I chose the hand annotated copies because someone in 1892 crossed out a street name and wrote the new one in pencil. Has anyone else found that the messy edits tell a better story than the clean prints?
