Shoutout to the guy at the hardware store in Dayton who told me to skip the $40 tool bag and get a bucket
So about 5 months back I walked into a farm supply place in Dayton looking at these fancy tool totes, you know the ones with 47 pockets and a shoulder strap, and this older guy working the counter just laughed and said 'save your money, get a 5 gallon bucket and a bucket organizer, you'll thank me.' I figured he was messing with me but he was dead right. I dropped $12 on the bucket and about $10 on the organizer sleeve and it has hauled everything from sockets to zip ties to my lunch without one ripped seam, whereas the $40 bag my buddy bought is already falling apart at the zipper. The part I did not expect is that a bucket sits flat in the truck bed, does not tip over when I take a turn, and I can actually see everything at once instead of digging through pockets. It has become the one thing I grab on the way out the door most mornings, which is kind of the whole point of daily gear. My only gripe is it collects rain if you leave it outside, so maybe grab a lid too. Anyone else running a bucket setup, or did you find something that beats it for around the same price?
