Need a bag that survives a 40 minute walk in Seattle rain with a laptop

I moved to Seattle 3 weeks ago and walk 40 minutes each way to my office near Pike Place, so my old canvas backpack has been soaking through and my laptop got damp twice already. I've been stuffing everything in a plastic bag inside the pack, which works but looks ridiculous in meetings. What messenger bag or backpack actually keeps a 15 inch laptop dry through real rain, and does waxed canvas hold up or should I just get something with a roll top?
