Update: The library in my hometown still has the same 2011 security poster up, and it's kind of a problem
Stopped by the public library in Sandusky, Ohio while visiting my parents and the computer lab still has that old poster about never sharing your password and watching out for email scams. Thing is, it says nothing about two factor auth or password managers, which are the two things that actually saved me when someone tried to get into my email 8 months ago. I asked the front desk lady if they ever update it and she just laughed and said nobody has brought it up. Is there a good free handout I could print and drop off there, or has anyone else run into a spot like this that's stuck in the past?
That line about nobody bringing it up is the part that gets me, because it means people are seeing the poster and just moving on. I used to figure the old advice was fine since the basics never really change, but then I watched a coworker get hit by a scam that a password manager alone would have stopped. Now I'd rather see something outdated taken down than left up where it gives folks a false sense of safety. The FTC has a plain language guide on passwords and 2FA you can print for free, and libraries usually have a board near the computers where a single page would fit fine.
