My neighbor thought his smart doorbell was safe because it had a password

He told me he used his dog's name, 'Buddy123', and his birthday, 0712, for everything, including his Wi-Fi. I had to explain that a hacker could guess that in about two tries if they saw his social media. What's the silliest password logic you've heard someone try to defend?

But honestly, how many people are actually getting targeted by hackers like that? Most folks are just worried about their neighbors or kids messing around, not some pro guessing their wifi.

Jana_davis90 makes a fair point about targeting, but that's exactly the problem. People assume a threat has to be personal. The logic isn't about a pro hacker singling you out. It's about bots that just try thousands of common passwords against every wifi network they can find. "Buddy123" and birthdays are on the very first list they use. I've seen folks use their street address or "password2024" and think it's safe because it's long. It's that mix of being careful but using the most guessable details imaginable.
