Was sure I hated foam in cases, then I tried the thin stuff

Ive been building boards for about 3 years now and always skipped the foam because I figured it was just a gimmick to kill the sound. My buddy kept pushing me to try it on my tray mount kbd67, said it would shut up the hollow echo that was driving me nuts. Last weekend I finally grabbed a 2mm sheet and cut it to fit the bottom case only, not between the plate and pcb. Total cost was like 12 bucks for way more than I need. The difference was honestly shocking, the board went from sounding like a plastic tub to a dense thock that I actually like typing on. I still think the thick squishy stuff in every prebuilt is overkill, but a thin layer under the pcb is now my standard move. Has anyone else had a similar flip on something they dismissed early in the hobby?

So you're saying the 2mm thin sheet under the pcb did the trick, but did you try it with the plate foam too or just leave that out completely?
