Talking to a collections agent changed how I see my credit score
I was on the phone with a debt collector in Dallas last week named Denise who said credit scores are just a snapshot of what you owe, not who you are. She told me her own score dropped 150 points after a medical bill she forgot about, but she fixed it in 4 months by paying on time. Has anyone else had a collector say something that actually helped you understand the system better?

Denise from the collection agency in Richardson told me last year that the system is designed to punish you for not having debt, not for being irresponsible. She said someone with zero credit history is riskier than someone with a $5,000 balance they pay every month. Her own score tanked after she paid off her car loan early because the account closed. That's when I realized the whole thing is rigged to keep you borrowing.

That Denise lady makes a good point about the system punishing you for paying stuff off early. I actually work with a mortgage broker in Phoenix who told me the same thing. He said people with zero credit scores actually get charged higher rates because the computer cant figure out if they'll pay or not. But I still think having debt just to have debt is a bad reason to borrow money, you know? Like isnt there a middle ground where you can just have a credit card you pay off monthly without taking out loans you don't need?
