The Halloween hair extension disaster in my own bathroom

Last week I tried to save twenty bucks by DIY-ing my own clip-in extensions for a costume party. I bought a cheap set from a beauty supply store downtown, but I didn't check the weight first. Halfway through curling them, a clip snapped right off and the whole weft hit my bathroom floor covered in hairspray. Took me an hour to untangle the mess from my rug. Has anyone else had a nightmare with budget extensions, or is it just me being too cheap?
