Switched from foam highlights to foil and I don't know why I waited so long...
I used to do all my highlights with those plastic caps and a hook, you know the old school method. Took forever and always missed sections. A stylist at my salon in Austin convinced me to try foils about 6 months ago and wow... it's so much cleaner and faster. My clients are even happier with the results. Has anyone else made a switch like that and regretted not doing it sooner?

My mom did hair back in the 80s and she still uses those plastic caps and a crochet hook because she says foils are "too modern and complicated." I finally convinced her to let me do a foil highlight on one section just to show her the difference and she was shook at how much faster it was. The thing nobody talks about though is the waste factor. With those caps you reuse them over and over but foils are single use and that adds up fast. I save all my used foils in a bin and take them to a local scrap metal guy who recycles them into like art projects and stuff. Makes me feel a little less guilty about the waste.

That scrap metal recycling idea is smart. I started doing the same thing after I realized how many foils I go through in a month. Most recycling centers won't take them because they're dirty with color, but scrap metal guys are usually happy to take clean aluminum. I just rinse mine in the sink and let them dry before bagging them up. My guy uses them to make garden art, copper and aluminum wind chimes and stuff. It's not a perfect solution but it beats throwing them in the trash.
