Hit 10,000 hours behind the chair and I'm not celebrating

I mean, I saw the number pop up in my booking app last month and everyone I told was like 'wow, congrats!' but honestly it just made me feel weird. 10,000 hours sounds like I should be some kind of master but last Tuesday I still botched a balayage on a client with thick, coarse hair. Had to redo the whole thing and she was late for her kid's recital. Maybe it's just me but I think the whole '10,000 hours equals expert' thing is overrated. It just means I've made the same mistakes enough times to know what not to do, but new hair types and new trends keep showing up. Anyone else hit a milestone number and feel less confident instead of more?

Is it really that deep though? You fixed the balayage, the client made it to the recital eventually, and honestly, who else is even tracking your hours besides your booking app? Nobody is out here expecting you to be a flawless hair god just because of some arbitrary number. The whole expert thing is just a vanity metric people use to feel better about themselves at parties. You know what you know, and you still mess up sometimes, same as everyone else.
