Spent $800 on a magnesium float and it was a total waste for my work
Everyone on here says you need a mag float for a slick finish, so I bought a high end one for a big driveway job. Used it right after the bull float like you're supposed to, but it just dragged the cream up and left streaks everywhere. I ended up going back to my old wood float and got a way better finish. Has anyone else had this happen, or did I just get a bad tool?

Yeah, that "pulling up too much cream" thing is why I only use my wood float now too.

Honestly had the same exact problem with a mag float on a garage slab last year. It kept pulling up too much cream and making a mess. The timing has to be perfect, almost right after the bull float, and the concrete can't be too wet. Switched back to my wood float halfway through and finished the job with it. That old wood tool just gives more control for that final pass sometimes. Felt like a waste of money for how it turned out.

Check the angle you're holding it at. If the leading edge is up even a little bit, it'll dig in and pull cream instead of laying it down flat. Did you try keeping it almost perfectly flat to the surface?
