Guy next to me at the Tacoma show said my phone recording was stealing the band's art, and I can't stop thinking about it
I was at a small club gig in Tacoma on Friday, maybe 80 people there, and I had my phone up recording the closer like I always do. The dude beside me leaned over and asked if I ever send the bands the clips or just keep them, and when I said mostly keep them he went quiet for a second and said it felt like taking something. I've got 40 something shows on my phone going back four years and I never once thought about it that way. Now I'm wondering if I should be asking bands before I tape, or at least offering them the files. How do you all handle that, do you reach out to the band or just record and swap like always?
