Rant: I had to pick between a cheap thermal pad or a more expensive paste for a laptop GPU repair last Thursday.
I went with the paste, and it dropped the idle temp by 8 degrees Celsius, so what's your go-to for tricky laptop thermal issues?

My go-to is usually the cheap stuff, then I get to do the job twice.

Doing the job twice sounds like a lot of extra work and trouble. I could never use the cheap stuff on purpose. It always ends up costing more in the long run, both in money and your own time. You have to stop everything and go back to the store. I’d much rather buy something decent once and have it done right.
