Dropped a laptop during a RAM upgrade in Troy, and the screen hinge paid for it
Client brought in a Dell Latitude for a 16GB RAM upgrade at my bench in Troy. I had it open, no anti static mat, just holding the board up to pop the sticks in. Slipped out of my hand about 8 inches onto the bench edge, landed right on the hinge corner. Screen still worked but the hinge cracked and the lid sat crooked, so I fessed up and ate $120 for a new hinge assembly. Took me two evenings to swap it and get the lid lined up again. Now I keep a folded towel under everything, no exceptions. Any of you got a cheap bench habit that saved you after a close call?
